Things To Consider With Hormone Replacement Therapy

HRT is now a common part of 'the change' for many women in the world. It's looked upon as a blessing by some and a veritable nightmare by others, some people believe it doesn't really help but causes more trouble; and other women swear by it. HRT is short for Hormone Replacement Therapy and basically is implemented when women experiencing 'the change' have extreme symptoms, and it's considered one of the remaining options open to them in order to try and give these women some of their life back.

HRT is specifically for women who have reached or are going through the menopause, and involves taking small doses of one of two of the female hormones - estrogen and progesterone. HRT during menopause helps to correct chemical imbalances due to the fluctuation of these same hormones in our body, and achieving the right balance is something best left to specialists.

Symptoms of the change can include hot flushes, periodic or constant acute insomnia, night sweats, irritability, moods swings, emotional outbursts (tears etc) and much more. Hormone replacement therapy is one of the more commonly used methods now to try and improve the hormone imbalance. Being in menopause is nothing to worry about now, obviously there is the knowledge that after it, there can be no more children and as the change does typically age women; there is concern about aging effects which take place during - so how will I look, after the menopause? All of these factors feature in how we perceive even just day to day things and the emotional aspect is a very important one which other people simply don't even think about. It isn't coined 'the change' for no reason. It's perhaps the second most important part of growing we endure throughout our life as women, the first being puberty.

Today HRT, or hormone replacement therapy is being gradually switched to just 'HT' for hormone therapy. Women typically experience the menopause around the age of 50, but this is no hard and fast rule and often people go on when their mother entered the menopause to help them expect when it could happen. As a woman currently in menopause, it's easy to advise others obviously but each woman is different and experiences different things. Sometimes the changes we experience when going through the menopause are really quite severe, and this is when HRT comes into play.

Other women are really lucky and just have the odd hot flush/flash. Chronic insomnia can play a major part in most of the worries us women have while experiencing menopause and this is again because of hormone fluctuation. HRT during the menopause can help level the hormone balance off a bit and ease other symptoms to no end, but there are other things which women just don't expect; and it is because of these other things that worries arise and sheer frustration takes the place of the inconvenience. The menopause can cause so many bodily imbalances and problems such as vaginal dryness are a typical and very common, annoying problem.
