The Reasons for Hot Flashes in Men


In the good olden days, menopause was believed to be only a woman's problem. But today, doctors associate it even with men. The term 'hot flashes' according to them is associated with the changing levels of hormone and is known as male menopause or andropause. The secretion of the testosterone hormone reduces with age and this causes hot flashes. During this time, the man faces the same difficulty as a woman - low sex drive, breast tissue tenderness and increase in fat. Since a wide number of cases have been reported, it is necessary to understand reasons for the causes, treatment and changes which are associated with it like sleep disorders, excessive sweating and night sweating.

The scientific results of this condition emphasises not only a physiological reason but also points out that it can occur as per the mid-life crisis, and signs of aging. It has been claimed to affect the sexual drive in men during the ages of the 50's, but for some men, it can start in the late 30's or in others, the 60's. The effect may have duration of two to thirty minutes and men may feel intense heat and rapid heart beat which begins in the face or chest or back of the body and it may spread throughout the whole body. The face may become bright red and will be followed by a 'body chill'. The body will return to normal condition. In other cases, men taking hormone therapy along with antiandrogens reduces testosterone to lower levels or other treatments such as prostate cancer or testicular cancer therapy can have hot flashes as a side effect. It can also occur in case of infection like HIV or tuberculosis. While antibiotics like cephalexin and some medications also have the reason of hot flashes as a side effect, most men suffer silently as they do not understand the causes and do not get proper treatment. They have to understand that natural treatments undertaken by women also work for them. They can seek the professional guidance of a doctor or physician to solve the problem.

Prevention against Hot Flashes:

A very promising treatment for this problem is acupuncture. To reduce the effect, anti-depressant medication and blood pressure medication such as clonidine or methyldopa have been suggested. Physical exercise helps control this problem and it is also vital to keep a tab on the food which we eat. The doctors conducting research on this disorder have analyzed that every men experiences this symptom at some stages in his life, but it is always necessary and mandatory to get the guidance of professionals and keep in mind that are millions of men all over the world who suffer from this problem.
