Prostate Cancer Augments Male Infertility

Prostate cancer is alarming the world and recently it has been found that 1 in 6 men have prostate cancer. Patients affected with cancer have to suffer the deadly effects of the disease as well as the side effects of the treatment. Few of the treatment options for prostate cancer are surgery, radiation therapy and hormone therapy. Every treatment has its own side effects. Prostate cancer doesn't show any signs during its early stage, but once the disease reaches an advanced stage patient can notice visible symptoms.

The prostate gland plays a major role in the sexual metabolism of men. It secretes a semi thick fluid and stores it; this fluid forms most part of the semen. It prevents the sperm from acidity as well as preserves its motile nature. Enlarged tumor gland must be removed through prostatectomy to prolong their life or save from death. The patient will experience infertility once the prostate gland is completely removed. Conception is only possible if a part of the prostate gland is removed.

If the ejaculatory duct is not removed sperm can flow out through ejaculation and conception is possible and pregnancy may be realized. But in most cases the gland is removed completely so as to avoid spreading of prostate cancer.

Next technique of treatment is hormone therapy; excess secretion of male sex hormone is one of the main causes of cancer. The role of testosterone is sexual potency or erectile function, fertility, sperm development, male secondary and primary character development etc. Testicles are responsible for the production of testosterone. More the secretion of testosterone large is the size of the tumor. In this therapy the patient is treated with hormones so as to suppress the male sex hormone. When hormone therapy is administered the size of the tumor starts to shrink. As the male sex hormone is suppressed the victim may start experiencing infertility.

Radiation therapy is used to destroy the abnormal cells which cause cancer of the prostate gland. Radioactive elements or x-rays are used in radiation therapy. These high radioactive elements can damage the local nerves completely which are responsible for mental or sensory stimulation as a result erectile dysfunction occurs in males.

Every treatment for prostate cancer has its own side effects which can affect the quality of life and self esteem. Avoiding prostate cancer is the best way to lead a normal and healthy life. Regular screening for PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) can help you to avoid the cancer of this gland at an early stage. Also every man should know about the biological functions of the prostate gland in order to avoid prostate cancer. This information and treatment can be found in our PSA ZERO treatment program.
